Running Multiple eVSM Versions on a Single PC

By default, only one version of eVSM can be installed on a PC. This standard installation resides in the C:\Program Files (x86)... directory. However, for testing or training purposes, it’s sometimes necessary to run multiple versions. These additional versions can be installed on the Desktop via a special ZIP download.

Each additional version is placed in a folder named "Desktop eVSM vXXX" (where XXX is the version number) and contains a standalone eVSM installation. Simply extract the ZIP file directly to the Desktop to use it.

Switching between eVSM Versions

eVSM "remembers" the last version that was run on the PC. So when opening any eVSM drawing, the system will attempt to launch it in that version — making it the default.

To switch to another default version:

  1. Exit Visio if running --- This is essential
  2. Open File Explorer and navigate to the eVSM.vstx file of the version you want to run. Location of the eVSM.vstx file is:
Installed VersionC:\Program Files (x86)\eVSM\Setup\Solutions
Desktop Version…\Desktop\Desktop eVSMvXXXX\eVSM\Setup\Solutions

Double-clicking the eVSM.vstx file will launch that version and make it the default for future sessions.

How to Identify the Currently Running Version

The active version is displayed both in the stencil header and in eVSM ribbon.

Macro Warning Messages

If you see any macro warning messages at startup, please check the following.

  1. Check that your macro settings comply with https://evsm.com/visio-macro-settings.
  2. Add the eVSM installation folder to the trusted locations in Visio. See how at: https://evsm.com/visio-trusted-locations.
  3. Make sure the Automation Events are enabled in Visio. See how at: https://evsm.com/enable-automation-events.

If the above do not resolve the issue, please contact support@evsm.com.
